Big Task Weekend - Healthier Americans

This Big Task Weekend (BTW) event included thirty C-Suite level executives who attended a three day conference at Bacara Resort in Santa Barbara with a single-minded goal of reducing healthcare liability, and doing something tangible about the childhood obesity epidemic in the United States. Sponsorship for the event was provided by Safeway, Kaiser Permanente and McDonald's and targeted highly influential attendees from the private, public and non-profit sectors across pertanent industry segments. Participating organizations included: Cargill, WebMD, YMCA, DuPont, Center for Disease Control, General Mills, Kraft Foods, American Heart Association and others who all came together to form partnerships, brainstorm ideas and commit to actions that would both help transition Americans to healthier lifestyles and improve their bottomlines. Finding win-win-win scenarios is at the core of the Big Task Weekend philosophy for creating positive socail change.

BTW Healthier Americans resulted in many 1-on-1 partnerships and ventures as well as two major group initiatives, to take the efforts and ideas generated at the event forward. A follow-on employer health summit will be held and a best practices study conducted on corporate wellness programs and reducing healthcare costs and a Child Wellness Coalition has been formed to determine the most effective way for the group of organizations to collectively make an impact on childhood obesity and support child wellness.

Given the huge success of BTW Healthier Americans 2005, FG will be organizing BTW Healthier Americans for 2006. If your organization is interested in sponsoring and/or attending this event please contact our office.

In addition, Big Task Weekend is spawning a new event, BTW Energy and Environment, that will focus on "greening" industry to acheive resource efficiency and environmental protection.
